I can't believe I actually did it!! The moment I decided to start stitching the ABC Sampler, I figured it would be a very long and tedious project. I had no idea it would be so addictive! Each night I sat down to tackle a different stitch and rarely was able to go to sleep without completing at least one letter. I feel much more skilled with embroidery now that I have worked my way through this unique alphabet. Each letter was challenging, even the really simple looking ones. Keeping the satin stitch even on the "O" was especially tricky. My two favorite letters are definitely the "Q" and the "W". Actually, I'm partial to any letter with a flower on it. :)
Aw man, I really do love this. I love the feeling of finishing a big project, tying off the ends, and in this case, hanging it on the wall. Although...I'm already ready to start something new. What should it be? That crochet blanket? Another sweater? Maybe I should focus on stock for the shop and fall craft fairs. The holidays will be here before we know it! Yikes.
Did you tackle any big projects this summer? How are they coming along?

Oh - it looks fantastic! Did you frame it yourself a-la-Alicia or did you have it done? Mine is still waiting unframed, along with my winter woods sampler...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I took it to my local craft shop for framing. I think they did a great job. However, it made me extremely nervous leaving it all alone, without me to protect it. Haha.
DeleteThat W! I am totally putting a sampler back at the top of my to-do list. I had always wanted to do one but never had the time to commit. Hopefully someday soon I'll get there! Yours is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome. I'm trying to find a favourite letter but they're all so pretty. I need to start doing stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteWow...I am totally in love with this! I think I'm going to have to give a go at something similar!
ReplyDeleteMeredith, this turned out so beautifully!! I did needlepoint when I was younger, so this really resonates with me. You must be very proud!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to undertake any big personal projects this summer, as my job has been keeping me creative and very busy! I'm chipping away at a skirt in stages though, and I'm creating a couple DIYs to go along with my progress. It's nice being able to combine projects in that way!
--Erin
Thank you Erin!
DeleteI would love to be able to make a skirt. That sounds so fun! Enjoy your DIYs! :)
wow!! looks beautiful!! Got to try this.
ReplyDeleteCassandra
That is so incredibly pretty! I've never done any projects like this before, but this beauty of this alphabet is kind of making me consider it. I am a little obsessed with yours! :)
ReplyDelete--Halie
I love this! It's beautiful! And a lot of fun too!
ReplyDeleteWow Meredith, that looks gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried embroidery before but think I better finish what I am making at the moment.
After my Fawn-Cho, I made the Oh My Bear! sweater and I love it! shame its so warm here at the moment though :(
I then started the Beekeepers' Quilt which was going to be a stop gap before I decided on my next project but now I am addicted to making these darn little hexipuffs! :)
Wow! You made the Oh My Bear sweater? I love that one so much! You are awesome. The quilt is so cool too. I imagine the little knit puffs are quite addicting.
DeleteIt is so beautiful! well done you :)
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
You HAVE to sell this in your shop. My baby's room NEEDS this!! So adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the A, C, W, and X!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out wonderfully!
ReplyDeletejob well done! the embroidery looks beautiful - you must be so pleased :) C and Z are my faves!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel incredible to finish such a lengthy project? I just finished a knitted blanket for my baby due in September and though it took hours upon hours to complete it is so rewarding to now see it finished and ready.
ReplyDeleteI really love your project and your persistence and I'm kind of in love with the D and the W. :) Lovely work!
It really does feel amazing. Congratulations on your baby blanket and your new baby! :)
DeleteThis is so gorgeous! I have been doing embroidery for years but nothing this complex...I really want to try it one of these days!
ReplyDeleteI have been knitting a couple sweaters this summer. I'm so close to finishing them!!
That is beautiful! I wish I had the patience and skill to complete something like this.
ReplyDeleteohmygoodness!! It looks beautiful!! This has me daydreaming about stitching up this too!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! :) :) Such a great project!
ReplyDeleteI haven't worked on a project for quite a long time (just too much to do! :( ), but hopefully a big project is going to start this month. :)
Best wishes,
Yoojin
You did an awesome job! I looks like you've been doing embroidery your whole life ^.^
ReplyDeleteFor your next project, I would love to see more of your granny square crocheting. I love seeing what colors other people choose for their granny squares.

Thank you!
DeleteI would love to start a new blanket too! I will start brainstorming a color palette.
This is so gorgeous! Where did you find the pattern for it? I'd love to tackle it myself!
ReplyDeleteYou could try cross stitching now - that's one of my favorite things to do. It's really simple so you can do it while watching TV or something, and it's really pretty when finished! Etsy even has some really cool, nerdy patterns (Doctor Who, the Lord of the Rings? I'm there!) <3
I've heard that cross stitch is a lot of fun! I'm not sure if I can handle another hobby though...but who am I kidding? I can't resist another fun craft! Haha. Ooh Doctor Who cross stitch? I might just have to try that. ;)
DeleteWOW! This is beautiful, you did such a great job! I am interested in embroidery and am taking an into class in a few weeks just on the different stitches. Your sampler is definitely inspiring!
ReplyDeleteYour stitching is so lovely! So neat to see this framed!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful project, I really love it!! Oh and that wallpaper on the first and 3rd pictures is absolutely lovely, I had dreams about finding such a beautiful wallpaper while I was redecorating! Anyway, congrats! Beautiful piece of work!
ReplyDeletewow, that looks incredibly intricate! it turned out so beautifully. all the letters look so lovely (although after a long consideration i've decided my favorites are the C and I!)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. I would love to try something like this and display it in my home.
ReplyDeleteThe Girl Collected
So lovely! Makes me want to try one!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so gorgeous! You should definitely be proud of it. :) Now I might just have to buy the pattern myself.

This looks amazing. The patience you have is awesome! You can really see how much work you put into it. Congrats on finishing a big project!
ReplyDeleteOh that looks so lovely! The Q and R are my favourites too. Well done, you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! It's inspiring me to break out the embroidery that has been languishing in my craft bin.
ReplyDeleteIt's soooo pretty!! :) Well done on finishing it, it's all so detailed and neat, lovely work! I like the C, I and W.. I'm partial to a flower too :)
ReplyDeletexx
That is gorgeous!! I can never decide whether the feeling of finishing a project or the feeling of starting a project is better... :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely two wonderful feelings! :)
DeleteIt's beautiful Meredith - I love it! Thank you for inspiring us with your fabulous ideas and crafts :) Best wishes for your birthday too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Elaine!
DeleteThat is so, so pretty! I love the colors you used! Also hi, I'm new to your blog, and I really love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :-)
DeletePlaying favorites, huh?!! I think my fave is the 'L'.
ReplyDeleteMy big project this summer was starting my blog. I wanted a place to record my adventures in crafting and now I have one tucked away in the vast sea of the internet, but it's mine. :)
That is so awesome Erica. Such a wonderful summer project and your blog looks wonderful! Happy blogging! :)
DeleteThat is lovely! I have a big soft spot for embroidery as you can sit down with a nice cup of/cocktail and while away the hours. I really like "O" it's simple yet polished.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should merge all your ideas into one...
A knitted jumper with embroidery on it?
Then sell it in the shop maybe?
Or wear it to the craft fairs :)
All sounds good to me!

Wow Meredith, that is beautiful! Love it♥ I am so keen to try a sampler, embroidery is not a craft I have practiced much, I mostly do x-stitch, am now inspired!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this - well done!
ReplyDeleteImpressing and beautiful work. It shows great dedication - embroidery is not a quick task!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours too!
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteMy fave is the 'L'
Did you frame it yourself?
Ooh it's so pretty! Love the Q too, and the A! :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking to do it too! I just still not sure if I be able to do it! Embroidery is not my thing :/
ReplyDeletethe only thing I'm not sure about this project is that it feels like it needs a good ironing?
Anyway loved it :) <3
Your post reminded me that I did a large alphabet sampler years ago, maybe early 90s, that hung in our old house for a long time - I really must go and look it out and hang it again in our present and permanent home!!
ReplyDeleteWell done for getting this pretty sampler done so fast - the one I did was also when I first discovered embroidery and it's right to be proud of something so intricate :)
Yes, definitely hang your embroidery! It is so special hanging something of your own creation.
DeleteThank you so much! :)
This is so beautiful! I love it!
ReplyDeletegorgeous work, meredith! it's absolutely lovely!
ReplyDeletethere's loads of gorgeous embroidery patterns out there, but have you seen the book the new crewel by katherine shaugnessy? i was very enamored of it when i first saw it, even though my embroidery skills are slim (i spend more time and energy knitting).
You did a great job! It's beautiful. I have to admit, I thought you would get bored with it, and not finish. I'm glad you didn't. I would find a place to hang it where you get to see it every day. It will brighten your whole day.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! I love it. That brown fabric goes so well with all the colours on the letters. I couldn't help but notice your copy of Jane Austen's Emma in the last picture, since I'm reading it now myself. It is a really entertaining summer-read.
ReplyDeleteI think you've convinced me to stitch this lovely sampler myself!
It looks so fantastic! You are seriously so impressive!

ReplyDeleteActually, my big project for this Summer was starting a blog -- and I did it, yeah! A few days ago... (but it's in French :/)
Concerning knitting, I'm working on a fanions garland for my home sweet home :)
Beautiful job on this, and congrats on finishing! : ) I'm also working on the ABC sampler this summer, and I've really been enjoying it. Looking forward to finishing and framing!
